Richard Davis moved his family to the Medina River in 1854, and settled about eight miles north of the present town of Bandera, where a few early settlers were making cypress shingles out of the beautiful cypress timber, then so abundant in that section. The date of her death we do not know, but when Amanda, Susie, and Lucy Davis went to the spring for water, they were attacked by Indians and Amanda killed. Amanda was shot in the heart with an arrow.
