In 1761, the Comanches went to Taos wanting to trade back some prisoners they had captured in earlier raids. The governor of New Mexico ordered the chiefs imprisoned and the Comanche camp attacked. The Spanish reported 300 killed and another 400 captured. The captive chiefs were then executed. Back to Southern Plains Map |
