The following is from the book, Indian Wars, by Bill Yenne.
Major Albert P. Morrow would continue to pursue Victorio for the next month, crossing south into Mexico, and finally catching him on the Rio Corralitos on October 27. By this time, the troopers were exhausted and short of ammunition, but they had come all this way to fight, and fight they did. Rather then let the Apache get away, Morrow ordered a night attack, which cost him one man killed in action. Once again, Victorio got away, but he rode south into Mexico, rather than north into the United States, For the next couple of months, he would be pursued by Mexican General Geronimo Trevino.
