About 1868, Press Perkins, who lived on Salt Creek, about eight miles north of Springtown, and in the southern part of Wise County, went out alone to hunt some oxen he had purchased from the Armstrong family. It was in the morning, and since he did not return, his family thought he had gone to Willow Creek, about eleven miles to the west, to look after some stock that had strayed in that direction. But unfortunately, he was found the next day, about one-half mile from home murdered by Indians. Note: Author interviewed John M. Frazier, who was closely related by marriage; Dole Miller; E.P.
