W. J. Nixon Wounds an Indian
During 1868, W.J. Nixon, Bill Ford and Henry Strackhein, while riding
the range on a roundup in Kemball County, ran on two Indians in the
roughs. The Indians ran one way, and the German, the other. But Nixon
and Ford followed the savages and when the former fired, an Indian
dropped his blanket and the other red men rushed to his side, as if
he were mortally wounded. This occurred late in the evening about
twelve miles south of Junction.
Note: Author interviewed W.J. Nixon, himself.
