Granbury Court House
Our saga begins in 1847 by Charles Binard who opened a trading post
along the Brazos River. Granbury was named for General Hiram Brinsom
Granberry. Hood County was created by special act of the Texas legislature
in 1866.
Since that time, the city has grown a hundred-fold, but Granbury's
proud past is interwoven everywhere. Hundreds of historic structures
have been lovingly preserved. A fascinating walking or riding tour allows
you to see Granbury's past firsthand, including the Historic Granbury
Square, which was the first to be listed in the National Register of
Historic Places and the first of its kind to be designated a "Texas
Historic District." More than 10 of the buildings and homes have
received Texas Historical Markers. Some of these sites still serve as
homes for residents of Granbury.
There are more that 40 retail shops in the Granbury Historic District
offering everything from antique furniture to gourmet coffees. Inside
each of these carefully preserved buildings, you'll find flourishing
enterprises such as restaurants, antique shops and boutiques.
