Fort Western

Location

Old Fort Western is located at 16 Cony Street on the East bank of the historic Kennebec River in Augusta, Maine. Once in Augusta, follow the signs to Downtown, River Front, City Center, and Old Fort Western. Park in the city hall parking lot just behind Old Fort Western. Enter through the main gate off Cony Street.

Walk-in visitation

Memorial Day Weekend  to July 3rd: 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.

July 4th through Labor Day: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. weekends.

Labor Day to Columbus Day: 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. weekends only.

November to May: The first Sunday of every month, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Pre-scheduled visitation

Adult motor coach tours and related programs are available from Memorial Day through Columbus Day.  Please write, e-mail, or call for prices and to make specific arrangements.

School and other group tours and programs, including Badge Day programs for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, are available anytime by pre-arrangement, either at the Fort (seasonally), in your classroom, or where your group meets. See the school brochure section of this site for the details regarding all of the pre-scheduled school and group programs offered by Old Fort Western. Call or write to make scheduling arrangements.

Admission Rates

For walk-in visitation:
Adults: $5.00 per person.
Seniors age 55 and over:  $4.00 per person.
Children between the ages of 6 and 16:  $3.00 per person.
Under age 6 and Augusta, Maine, residents: Free

For pre-scheduled group visitation:
Group (Adult): $4.00 per person. 
Group (School, Camp, Library, Youth, Boy and Girl Scout, etc.): Please see the school brochure section of this site for pricing for group programs, both at the Fort and where your group meets.  Please call, write, or e-mail for more information or to make scheduling arrangements.

Annual Special Events

French and Indian War encampment: June 19 and 20, 2004. See the Bulletin Board page for registration materials. Event details will be posted in April.

Fort to Fort Canoe and Kayak Expedition:  the weekend prior to the Fourth of July.

The Fourth at the Fort (an old-fashioned Independence Day celebration on the Fourth of July):  July 4th.

Benedict Arnold Expedition military encampment: Late September. 

Daily Summer Special Demonstrations. Daily during July and August. Sponsored by Kennebec Savings Bank.

The Old Fort Western Apprentice Program: A weekly hands-on program for kids 8 to 15 years old during July and August. Please call, write, or e-mail for details.

Summer Sunday Talks, Walks and other Usually Outdoor Interactive programs.

Winter Lecture Series: Thursday evenings during February and March.

Maple Syrup Day: Part of Maine Maple Sunday, the fourth Sunday in March, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
