The British started to build this historic fort in 1772. It was completed in 1776 by the Revolutionary forces under the direction of Benjamin Franklin. In 1777, 400 soldiers held off over 2,000 British troops and 250 ships for several days. Their stand allowed George Washington to retreat from Philadelphia to Valley Forge.

Open April 1 to November 30
10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday.
Pre-arranged group tours are welcomed year-round. Call the office to book a tour. (215) 685-4167. Tour guides on these tours only are dressed in period costume and uniform and weapons demonstrations are given.

Teachers - $4.00

Parking is free for all buses and cars.
Handicapped Access: Fort Mifflin is sensitive to the needs of a physically challenged visitor. While the Fort grounds and most buildings are accessible, several areas are not. Programs will be adapted for those with special needs by calling: (215) 685-4167
Directions
South on I-95, take Exit 15 Island Avenue/Enterprise Avenue. At end of exit ramp, you will be on Enterprise Avenue. At stop sign turn left onto Fort Mifflin Road. Follow road, through short tunnel, to the first left turn. See sign on right. After left hand turn, follow signs straight into the Fort. Free Parking is on left.
North on I-95, take Exit 13 - Valley Forge/West 291. Bear right and follow sign for Island Avenue. At traffic light (Hilton Hotel on left corner), turn left onto Island Avenue. At stop sign turn left onto Enterprise Avenue. At stop sign, turn right onto Fort Mifflin Road. Follow road, through short tunnel, to the first left turn. See sign on right. After left hand turn, follow signs straight into the Fort. Free parking is on left.
