The Fort Garland Museum and Visitor Center is located in Fort Garland, Colorado, 25 miles east of Alamosa off U.S. Highway 160. Phone719-379-3512 Pike's StockadePikes Stockade is closed for the winter season. It will reopen on Memorial Day, 2002. DirectionsFrom Fort Garland, take US Highway 160 West to Alamosa. Go through town and turn left (south) onto US 285. Take US 285 South to La Jara. At La Jara, turn left (east) onto Colorado Road 136. Follow Colorado Road 136 to County Road 20. Turn left (north) onto County Road 20. Travel 2 miles to County Road Y. Turn right (east) onto County Road Y. Travel 4 miles to the entrance of Pikes Stockade. Turn right into the stockade grounds (over a cattle guard--which is actually County Road 24). Travel on County Road 24 for approximately 1 mile to the reconstructed stockade.
