In July 1773, 500 Comanches raided El Valle, only 45 miles from Santa Fe, and drove off most of the horse herd at the presidio. Two hundred of the animals were recovered when scouts from a Spanish force in pursuit of the Indians surprised them. Back to Southern Plains Map |
