In September 1821 a war party of 300 Cherokee, led by Tom Graves, attacked a caravan of Osage on their annual fall hunt near the Cimarron River. Sixty-three Osage, mostly women and children, were killed and thirty captives and seventy horses were taken. Back to Southern Plains Map |
